My Grandfather was William Clifford who won the Bisley in 1911 and the Irish Cup, with the Ross rifle. I believe little is know about the pressure placed on him to resign from Hughes and Ross, due to his denouncing the Ross rifle. He therefor joined the Royal Flying Corp. latter to be shot down and never found. So in fact, the Ross rifle and the politic's that surrounded it, especially the millions that were made by Hughes and Ross, play a leading role in the death of my Grandfather. My name is David William Miller. I have donated the Ross rifles, the one presented by Sir Ross, and the other from Walker and Son's, to the Dominion Rifle Association. I am proud of my Grandfather deeds as a marksman, but more importantly, as a man, who by his actions saved thousand's of life's.

Hello,
I am here because I need help in case that cannot be solved without your assistance.
I am a display replica/ASG replica model maker. Now I am working on Sten Mk II replica that should be presented in the original-like factory shipment box.
From the picture I see that this is corrugated box. But no information on the cover and tags/labels on it. How did they look like. What was the color of the box. These are details that are important from the point of view of realism of whole setup.
If anyone could help me in this matter I will be very grateful.

Mr. Joseph, you must have known my father, Eric Barton Howard, he was in the 3rd battalion RCR in Korea. He was injured on hill 187 on may 29th 1953, got his index finger blown off, do you know anything about that day, they keep saying the battle on 187 was may 2 and 3rd but nothing about May 29th. WEre you with him that day? and can you tell me anything about what happened to him.  My mom says he was never the same man again after korea.

can anyone tell me what happened on hill 187 on may 29th, 1953, my father was injured, according to his military records at 1320 hrs on may 29th on hill 187, not may 2 and 3, but I can't find any information about what happened on the 29th, he had part of his index finger of his right hand blown off that day.  He didn't want to tell his children about the horrors over their, so he made up funny stories about the loss of his partial peter pointer.  He told us his buddy was cleaning his gun and it went off,I knew this was not true, because he would have shot the guy back, for cleaning a loaded gun, he hated stupity, and he said he cut it off on KP duty, peeling potatoes, and other such silliness.  My father has been gone since 1987 and until this year I still didn't know that it got blown off in Korea on hill 187, when I received his records from the archives. No mention anywhere of the battle on the 29th. Someone else must have been with him  that day.  So if anyone can tell about the day my dad lost peter, His name was Eric Barton Howard. he served in the 1st battalion mostly but was in the 3rd for part of his time in Korea.  My dad came back from there a very damaged human being, my mother says he was not the same man she married in 1950.  He got malaria, and his mental well being was never the same, but he soldiered on, until 1968. At least I finally know why he wouldn't tell us what really happened.  Alot of Mystery's and secrets surrounded our lives, and that was why I requested the file. Just a warning to anyone else requesting their parents records, there are some things in there you might not want to know. They send you everything they have at the archives.Eileen

Veterans Denied Justice Once Again, or is that Still.

Can the Canadian public ever expect to receive justice when the careers and advancements for any Judge who is ruling in their case is wholly and completely dependant on the goodwill and whim of the defendant or the Government in the same case? This is a question which tens of thousands of Canadians are asking themselves today.

I wish that I could say that I was surprised in the April fools day Court of Appeals' decision to decertified the class-action lawsuit relating to Agent Orange and the 29 years of toxic Defoliation chemicals used at CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick.

The timing of the release was also reminiscent on most Conservative Party's "Bad News", releases and being handed to the general public on the afternoon of the day before a long four day weekend and is in my view, typical Harper tactics. Canada and the media will now have four days to distance themselves from the memory and to find more recent stories with which to occupy their time and space at news time.

There is no doubt that the CFB Gagetown Class action case was a complicated one and any judge worth their salt, could have found as many reasons to proceed with the case as reasons to squash it, but then again when the government decided to use dozens of proven toxic chemicals over an extended time frame and then to keep it more secret then the nuclear bomb tests in the USA, Canadians need to ask themselves Why?

Why were the soldiers in Gagetown sent into what now can only be described as killing fields? Why is Ottawa still refusing to provide millions of documents in this case? Why is Ottawa continually refusing to have a full Public and Judicial Inquiry into this, if it was as they claim, an un-intended mistake?

I am asking all Canadians and all veterans to demand of Ottawa a full Public and Judicial Inquiry into Canada's own little Killing Fields and the Gagetown Atrocity. And maybe an appointed Senate isn't the only thing that we Canadians need to stop partisan Government appointments to, if we ever wish to receive Justice.
