Who are we? Well, perhaps one the better description I have ever come across has been provided buy The Regiment. Of course, one might say that I am biased! snicker.

The Royal Canadian Regiment

The Royal Canadian Regiment (The RCR) is Canada's senior Regular Force Infantry Regiment. Formed in 1883, it has garrisoned communities from Halifax to Victoria and has served in virtually every military campaign undertaken by the country. The active or serving component of the Regiment consists of:

    * Regimental Headquarters at Victoria Barracks in Petawawa, Ontario
    * The 1st Battalion at Victoria Barracks and the 3rd Battalion at Foulkes Barracks, both in Petawawa, Ontario
    * The 2nd Battalion at Gregg Barracks in Gagetown, New Brunswick
    * The 4th Battalion at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario

The Regimental Association, which includes retired or former serving members as well as serving soldiers, Non-Commissioned Officers and officers of the Regiment, is represented by established branches across Canada. Its National Headquarters is co-located with Regimental Headquarters at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario...

...tradition, The Royal Canadian Regiment also includes all retired members, members of The RCR Association, as well as serving or retired members of other Regiments, Corps or Branches who have served with The RCR, members of our affiliated Regiments and the families of Regimental members.

In some important respects, the Regiment is a family whose membership embraces all those who cherish the Regiment. United by a pride in past accomplishments and the dedication to serve their country, all members of the Regiment are committed to maintaining the high standards set by those who have gone before, and to meeting the challenges of the future.

    The Royal Canadian Regiment Charter


Our Colonel-in-Chief, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, while reviewing the 1st Battalion, on 31 May 1980, said:

       

"You will be expected to set an example at all times, in all military arts and virtues, in smartness and discipline, intelligence and general conduct, but particularly in courage and tenacity in moments of crisis and adversity".

Strome Galloway, a former Colonel of the Regiment described the Regiment as follows:



"In many ways a Regiment is like a tree. It has roots, it has branches. And the men who belong to it are so many leaves. They come and go with the seasons. Yet, the tree lives on to see new branches grafted to the main stem, to see the old branches lopped off. The Royal Canadian Regiment, if it can be likened to a tree, is becoming an old tree. The Royal Canadian Regiment is rooted in Canadian society. It is composed of dedicated and loyal serving and former serving members of the Regiment. The extended Regimental Family includes their dependents. Once a Royal Canadian, always a Royal Canadian.

Role

To train and maintain in readiness for service, military forces as directed by the Government of Canada.

Goals

To contribute loyal units to the Canadian Forces Order of Battle To maintain relevant traditions of the Regiment To foster the Canadian military ethos To generate and maintain sufficient funds to ensure the well being of the Regiment To maintain a high and positive public profile
