Kabul, Afghanistan
Private Tony Bahadur of the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (2 RCR), watches a sparrow rest at the end of his C7A1 assault rifle. The injured bird was freed from barbed wire by Canadian troops manning an observation point in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Canadian soldiers are in the Afghan capital as part of Operation ATHENA, Canada's contribution to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). Canada will contribute about 1,900 troops to the mission in Kabul later this summer, making the Canadian contingent the second largest in ISAF. Currently this mission involves about 5,000 troops from 29 nations.
